« May God forgive me » multiplie les approches.

The sound compilation “May God Forgive Me” comprises 8 pieces. It experiments with the relation of individuals to the chaos of the world and the powers of history through their multiple and monstrous forms: geopolitics, government, nation, identity and border control, as well as the power of images and the profusion of information that is characteristic of societies centered on modern communication technologies.

“May God Forgive Me” uses several approaches. Anatomical and physiological: these sound pieces look at the effects of history on the bodies of individuals. Linguistic: they question the communicational possibilities of language. Sociological: they underline the violence of images in the media and their normalization, the commercialization of cultural objects and the popular democratic aspirations that have been expressed throughout history.

“May God Forgive Me” throws the audience into a Dantesque inferno full of eerie moans, distorted cries of pain and sounds of shattered glass and pottery, interspersed with journalistic accounts of various horrors. Amidst all this noise, the listener will perhaps be fortunate enough to distinguish sounds of a completely different nature: women’s voices as if out of an airport’s PA system, birdsong, the discrete rubbing of fingers as they turn a book’s pages… They might then realize that a way out may be possible. This sound compilation invites the audience to develop a strategy based on the affirmation of desire and on displacement, in order to find a path between the obstacles of existence.
