Yusuf ibn Ahmad who took the honorary nickname of al-Mutaman (born on an unknown date - died in 1085) is the son and successor of Ahmad al-Muqtadir. He was the third king of the dynasty of Banu Hud to rule the Taifa of Zaragoza, of 1081-1085. He reigned at the time of the Golden Age of the Muslim Zaragoza, following the reign of his father al-Muqtadir. Patron of science, philosophy and the arts, he knew astrology, philosophy and particularly mathematics discipline in which he wrote a treatise, the Book of perfection. He continued the efforts of his father and created around him a court of intellectuals, living in the beautiful Aljafería Palace, nicknamed the "palace of joy".

Kitab al-ISTIKMÁL, the book of perfection was written by Yusuf Al-Mutaman, known as King's Surveyor. This book brings together the mathematical and geometric knowledge known in the eleventh century. He has solved the "theorem of Al-Mu'taman" or "theorem of Ibn Hud," known as the Ceva theorem, Italian mathematician of the seventeenth century. THE PROJECT The Book of perfection is a missing book from which some fragments were identified in 1995 in Copenhagen, Leiden, Cairo and Damascus. This book gathers, synthesizes and simplifies mathematical knowledge of his time, particularly in terms of geometry and optics. Yusuf Al-Mutaman draws its sources of Euclid works of Ptolemy, of Apollonius, Archimedes and Ibn al-Haytham, among others.

mounir fatmi wishes to use the original drawings found in the fragments of these books, and make a transfer from the book to the movie. The intention of the artist is to change our intimate and personal relationship to the book by transposing it into a video work accessible to the largest number for a collective experience related to knowledge and architecture. By combining writing and geometry in the work the Book of Perfection, it is to rediscover the surveyor king and the lost book. On three levels of projection, the video installation will consider the movements of students in its development. The text of this lost book is written and erased following the oblique geometric lines of the architecture. Geometric shapes from the drawings of Al-Mutaman translated into three dimensions, to pass from the plan to the depth, will appear and disappear and operate metamorphoses with the circulation of the students in the space.
